Direct observation of ultrafast non-thermal melting by ultrafast x-ray diffraction

SPRINGER SERIES CHEM 66 (2001) 276-280

Authors:

CW Siders, A Cavalleri, K Sokolowski-Tinten, C Toth, T Guo, M Kammler, MH von Hoegen, KR Wilson, D von der Linde, CPJ Barty

Abstract:

Ultrafast nonthermal melting of femtosecond laser-irradiated germanium was observed directly for the first time using sub-picosecond, 1.54-angstrom x-ray diffraction. Such measurements allow the study of transient atomic motion fundamental to many processes in physics, chemistry, and biology.

Femtosecond laser-induced ablation of graphite

SPRINGER SERIES CHEM 66 (2001) 425-427

Authors:

K Sokolowski-Tinten, S Kudryashov, V Temnov, J Bialkowski, D von der Linde, A Cavalleri, HO Jeschke, ME Garcia, KH Bennemann

Abstract:

The dynamics of fs-laser ablation of graphite has been investigated experimentally and theoretically. The experimental observation of two different ablation mechanisms is 91探花ed by molecular dynamics calculations, which incorporate the changes of the interatomic potentials due to electronic excitation.

Femtosecond x-ray measurement of ultrafast melting and large acoustic transients

PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 87:22 (2001) art. no.-225701

Authors:

K Sokolowski-Tinten, C Blome, C Dietrich, A Tarasevitch, MH von Hoegen, D von der Linde, A Cavalleri, J Squier, M Kammler

Time-resolved x-ray diffraction study of ultrafast acoustic phonon dynamics in Ge/Si-heterostructures

SPRINGER SERIES CHEM 66 (2001) 281-283

Authors:

K Sokolowski-Tinten, A Cavalleri, CW Siders, FLH Brown, DM Leitner, C Toth, M Kammler, MH von Hoegen, D von der Linde, JA Squier, CPJ Barty, KR Wilson

Abstract:

Using time-resolved x-ray diffraction the ultafast strain dynamics in fs-laserexcited Ge/Si-heterostructures has been studied. A fluence dependent, anharmonic damping of the impulsively generated acoustic phonons and vibrational transport across the buried Ge/Si-interface are observed.

Ultrafast x-ray measurement of laser heating in semiconductors: Parameters determining the melting threshold - art. no. 193306

PHYSICAL REVIEW B 63:19 (2001) ARTN 193306

Authors:

A Cavalleri, CW Siders, C Rose-Petruck, R Jimenez, C T贸th, JA Squier, CPJ Barty, KR Wilson, K Sokolowski-Tinten, MH von Hoegen, D von der Linde
