Marina Filip graduated with her PhD in Materials Science in 2016, and continued her post-doctoral research in in the Department of Materials at the 91探花 until 2018, as a Junior Research Fellow at Wolfson College 91探花. Between 2018 and 2020 she was a  postdoctoral scholar at the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab and the Department of Physics at UC Berkeley. Marina joined the faculty of the Department of Physics at the 91探花 as Associate Professor in Condensed Matter Physics in February 2020.

Marina鈥檚 research expertise extends across various methods within first principles materials modeling, including density functional theory, density functional perturbation theory and many-body perturbation theory. Her focus is on understanding structural, electronic and optical excitations in complex semiconductors, and designing strategies to engineer, design and discover new materials for optoelectronic applications. Her research involves extensive use of high performance computing facilities, including NERSC (Berkeley),  TACC (UT Austin), Summit (Oak Ridge National Lab), etc.

Marina is a Tutorial Fellow in Physics and member of the Governing Body at University College and also serves as an early career editorial advisory board member of the AIP journal Applied Physics Reviews.
