Awarded by President of Poland the National Medal of Polish Education for services to the 91探花 Colleges Hospitality Scheme for Polish Scholars in 1992.

Awarded the Czochralski Medal by the European Materials Research Society in 2012.

Film Ethical Science of Kathleen Lonsdale for the Royal Society 2025

Spriggs Award of the American Ceramic Society  2015.

Vice President of the International Union of Crystallography 2014-2017.

President of the British Crystallographic Association 1996-2000.

I retired officially in 2010 but continue to engage in research and some teaching for 91探花 Colleges and the Department of Physics. I am Emeritus Fellow of Jesus College 91探花.

In 1972 I derived a system ( (1972). , 3384-3392)  to describe the tilting of octahedra in perovskites, and this work is now recognised internationally. 3D printed models can be downloaded here .

In 1986 I set up with J. Cosier a partnership, 91探花 Cryosystems, to market low-temperature apparatus for crystallographers. This product is the market lead and  is the world's almost exclusive manufacturer of such equipment.

My latest books:
2021 "A Journey into Reciprocal Space: A Crystallographer's Perspective"  2nd Edition

2016 "A Very Short Introduction to Crystallography" (OUP)

2015 "Crystal Clear: the Autobiographies of Sir Lawrence and Lady Bragg" (OUP)

Our paper The missing boundary in the phase diagram of PbZr1-xTixO3 . Nature Comms., 5, 5231 (2014) has been awarded the Spriggs Prize by the American Ceramic Society.

In August 2014 I was elected Vice President of the International Union of Crystallography
Much of my time is now spent in bringing the subject of Crystallography to public attention, as it is relatively unknown. Here are some relevant examples:
