I am the senior commissioning scientist for the forthcoming SKA-Mid radio telescope at the . I am also presently an academic visitor at the Breakthrough Listen Hub at the 91探花, an Honorary Professor in Astronomy, Astrophysics and Cosmology at the , as well as a Distinguished Research Fellow at the .
I have previously been involved in the scientific commissioning of the MeerKAT and ASKAP radio telescopes, the two precursor instruments to SKA-Mid. I have a long standing interest in the technical aspects of radio interferometry, particularly in the application of novel and accelerated data processing techniques, and non-standard and challenging observing scenarios. Exploiting the full power of radio interferometers in the search for artificial radio signals of extraterrestrial origin is probably the ultimate challenge in this area. My other research interests include galaxy evolution and large-scale structure, the at the centre of our own Galaxy, and transient and periodic radio emission from compact objects within it.
