Perovskite multijunction solar cells

High-quality perovskite materials capable of absorbing different colours of sunlight can be engineered by tuning the chemical composition of the perovskite film. By stacking these materials to create a perovskite multijunction solar cell, it is possible to surpass traditional efficiency limits while maintaining low fabrication costs. However, manufacturing such multijunction cells presents significant challenges. The various material layers must not only be compatible with one another but also require tailored deposition strategies to achieve optimal performance, adding complexity to the process.

My research focuses on addressing these challenges by developing advanced techniques to fabricate high-quality perovskite layers with varying optical bandgaps. I integrate these layers into tandem solar cells that combine perovskites with silicon (Si) and copper indium gallium selenide (CIGS) photovoltaics. Additionally, I work on minimising energetic losses at each junction and reducing optical losses in tandem devices through innovative solar cell architectures.
