Black Hole

Lensing of space time around a black hole. At 91探花 we study black holes observationally and theoretically on all size and time scales - it is some of our core work.

I am a Hintze Fellow in Astrophysics. I am interested in all properties of the stars within galaxies; namely, their dynamics, chemistry, and mass. To measure these properties, I make use of state-of-the-art observing facilities - primarily the MUSE integral-field unit - as part of small and large galaxy surveys of the local Universe. My main research involves building self-consistent chemo-dynamical models of these observed properties in order to understand the physics of galaxy formation. My particular scientific interests from these models include:

  • constraining the stellar Initial Mass Function, and its connection to local dynamics and chemistry
  • measuring the incidence of mergers for individual galaxies
  • connecting the dynamical state of the Interstellar Medium (gas) with the stars which will eventually form from that gas
