A red laser beam moves from mid-left to bottom-right, marking the path of a metal flight tube through a series of mechanics and electronics. The room is dark and full of metal equipment and different coloured cables. A blue circular metal ring envelopes the apparent origin of the laser beam.

A red laser beam marks the path that X-rays take through the experimental hutch at beam line B16 at Diamond Light Source Ltd..

I am a graduate student with the OPMD laboratory in the Particle Physics sub-department here at the 91探花. My work, under a joint-studentship between the University and , centres on the research and development of novel semiconductor detector technology for X-ray synchrotron applications.

Prior to this, I worked as a laboratory assistant in the Superconducting Quantum Detectors group in the University's Astrophysics sub-department. The position followed on from my master's degree at the University, for which I received the .
