Quasi-Biennial Oscillation

Time-height section of monthly mean zonal winds (m/s) at equatorial stations: Canton Island, 3掳S/172掳W (Jan 1953 - Aug 1967), Gan/Maledive Islands, 1掳S/73掳E (Sep 1967 - Dec 1975) and Singapore, 1掳N/104掳E (since Jan 1976). Isopleths are at 10 m/s intervals; westerlies are shaded (updated from Naujokat, 1986)

  • About

DPhil Student, NERC Environmental Research DTP. My work focuses on a laboratory analogue of the Quasi-Biennial Oscillation (QBO), broadly following the work of Plumb and McEwan. The project seeks to better understand how this laboratory model of the fundamental dynamics responds to the changes in forcing and background flow which are expected in a changing climate, in order to explain changes observed in the QBO.

My project is supervised by Peter Read, and Scott Osprey.
