Black Hole

Lensing of space time around a black hole. At 91探花 we study black holes observationally and theoretically on all size and time scales - it is some of our core work.

  • About

Richard is a DPhil candidate in Astrophysics supervised by Harry Desmond, Julien Devriendt, and Adrianne Slyz. He is a member of the Aquila Consortium, Learning the Universe, and CAMELS collaborations. His research focuses on Bayesian forward modelling of astrophysical observations and digital twins of the local Universe, leveraging galaxy clustering and peculiar velocities to infer the initial conditions of the Universe. He also develops novel statistical frameworks for measuring the expansion rate using distance indicators ranging from Milky Way stars to nearby Cepheids, TRGB stars, and masers, all the way to distant supernovae.

More broadly, he is interested in galaxy formation and semi-analytic modelling, cosmological rescaling techniques, forward modelling of the cosmic microwave background, and applications of machine learning in astrophysics and cosmology.
