A particle-based algorithm for the hydrodynamics of binary fluid mixtures

Abstract:

The aim of this paper is to describe the extension of a particle-based mesoscale modeling approach to binary fluid how. In particular we show that a viscous drag between the two fluid components can lead to concentration modulations when an oscillatory force is applied to one components. This confirms predictions obtained using a lattice Boltzmann algorithm. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:

We define a lattice Boltzmann algorithm for two-fluid hydrodynamics which includes viscous coupling between the two fluid components. Hence we show that, when an oscillatory shear is applied to one of the components, a pattern of vortices is set up which establishes concentration modulations even within the mixed phase.
