Abstract:

This article describes improved measurements by CLEO of the B0鈫扗s+D*- and B0鈫扗s*+D*- branching fractions, and first evidence for the decay B+鈫扗s(*)+顿虅** 0, where 顿虅**0 represents the sum of the D虅1(2420)0, D虅2*(2460)0, and D虅1(j = 1/2)0 L = 1 charm meson states. Also reported is the first measurement of the Ds*+ polarization in the decay B0鈫扗s*+D*-. A partial reconstruction technique, employing only the fully reconstructed Ds+ and slow pion 蟺s- from the D*-鈫扗虅0蟺s- decay, enhances sensitivity. The observed branching fractions are B(B0鈫扗s+D*-) = (1.10卤0.18卤0.10卤0.28)%, B(B0鈫扗s*+D*-) = (1.82卤0.37卤0.24 卤0.46)% , and B(B+鈫扗s(*) +顿虅**0) = (2.73卤0.78卤0.48卤0.68)%, where the first error is statistical, the second systematic, and the third is the uncertainty in the Ds+鈫捪喯赌+ branching fraction. The measured Ds*+ longitudinal polarization, 螕L/螕 = (50.6卤13.9卤3.6)%, is consistent with the factorization prediction of 54%.

Abstract:

The resonant structure of the four pion final state in the decay 蟿鈫3 蟺蟺 0 谓 蟿 has been analyzed using 4.27 million 蟿 + 蟿 - pairs collected by the CLEO II experiment at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring. A partial wave analysis of the resonant structure of the 蟿鈫3 蟺蟺 0 谓 蟿 decay has been performed; the spectral decomposition of the four pion system is dominated by the 蠅蟺 and a 1 蟺 final states. The mass and width of the 蟻鈥 resonance have been extracted from a fit to the 蟿鈫捪壪谓 蟿 spectral function. We have searched for second class currents in the decay 蟿鈫捪壪谓 蟿 using spin-parity analysis and established an upper limit on the non-vector current contribution. 漏 2000 The American Physical Society.
