Abstract:

The decays B0鈫扗*+D*-, B0鈫扗*卤D鈭 and B0鈫扗+D- are studied in 9.7 X 106 纬(4S)鈫払B虅 decays accumulated with the CLEO detector. We determine B(B0鈫扗*+D*-) = (9.9+4.2-3.3[stat]卤1.2[syst]) X 10-4 and limit B(B0鈫扗*卤D 鈭)<6.3X10-4 and B(B0鈫扗+D-)<9.4 X 10-4 at 90% confidence level (C.L.). We also perform the first angular analysis of the B0鈫扗*+D*- decay and determine that the CP-even fraction of the final state is greater than 0.11 at 90% C.L. Future measurements of the time dependence of these decays may be useful for the investigation of CP violation in neutral B meson decays. 漏2000 The American Physical Society.

Abstract:

Searches for CP violation in decays of B mesons to three K蟺 modes, K卤蟺卤, K卤蟺0, KS0蟺卤, the mode K卤畏鈥, and the vector-pseudoscalar mode 蠅pi卤. These decay modes have well-measured branching ratios and significant signal yields and are self-tagging. Any possible systematic bias on charge asymmetries is negligible compared to the statistical measurement errors. The dependence of the likelihood function on the charge asymmetry for each of the five decay modes is described. All five modes showed no evidence for CP violation.

Abstract:

We report on a study of the invariant mass spectrum of the hadronic system in the decay 蟿-鈫捪赌-蟺0谓蟿. This study was performed with data obtained with the CLEO II detector operating at the CESR e+e- collider. We present fits to phenomenological models in which resonance parameters associated with the 蟻(770) and 蟻(1450) mesons are determined. The 蟺-蟺0 spectral function inferred from the invariant mass spectrum is compared with data on e+e-蟺+蟺- as a test of the conserved vector current theorem. We also discuss the implications of our data with regard to estimates of the hadronic contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment. 漏2000 The American Physical Society.

Abstract:

Using a sample of 9.6 脳 106BB虅 meson pairs collected with the CLEO detector, we have fully reconstructed 135 B0鈫捪(鈥)KS0 and 526 B+鈫捪(鈥)K+ candidates with very low background. We fitted the 蠄(鈥)K invariant mass distributions of these B meson candidates and measured the masses of the neutral and charged B mesons to be M(B0)=5279.1卤0.7[stat]卤0.3[ syst] MeV/c2 and M(B+)=5279.1卤0.4[stat]卤0.4[ syst] MeV/c2. The precision is a significant improvement over previous measurements. 漏2000 The American Physical Society.

The CLEO III upgrade

NUCL INSTRUM METH A 446:1-2 (2000) 97-105

Abstract:

The electron storage ring CESR at Cornell University is presently undergoing a major upgrade together with its B-physics detector CLEO. Improved focusing and superconducting cavities will increase the luminosity of the collider to more than 2 x 10(33) cm(2) s(-1). To accommodate the necessary accelerator elements the tracking region of CLEO has to be rebuilt. The new tracking system consists of a four-layer silicon vertex detector and a large volume drift chamber, which also provides dE/dx particle identification information. The CLEO III upgrade also includes a new particle identification system which allows full exploitation of the possibilities provided by the upgraded accelerator. This PID system is a proximity focusing RICH with lithium fluoride radiators and multi-wire chambers filled with a methane/triethylamine mixture to detect UV Cherenkov photons. Installation of the new detector elements in the CLEO detector is taking place during summer 1999. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
