Abstract:

Based on a sample corresponding to 4.3脳106 produced 蟿-pair events, we have studied hadronic dynamics in the decay 蟿-鈫捨蟿蟺-蟺 0蟺0 in data recorded by the CLEO II detector operating at the CESR e+e- collider. The decay is dominated by the process 蟿-鈫捨蟿a1-(1260), with the a1- meson decaying to three pions predominantly via the lowest dimensional (mainly S-wave) 蟻-蟺0 Born amplitude. From model-dependent fits to the Dalitz plot and angular observables in bins of 3 蟺 mass, we find significant additional contributions from amplitudes for a1 decay to 蟽蟺, f0(1370)蟺, and f2(1270)蟺, as well as higher dimensional a1鈫捪佅 and 蟻鈥 蟺 amplitudes. Notably, the squared 蟽蟺 amplitude accounts for approximately 15% of the total 蟿- 鈫捨蟿蟺-蟺0蟺0 rate in the models considered. The data are well described using couplings to these amplitudes that are independent of the 3蟺 mass. These amplitudes also provide a good description for the 蟿- 鈫捨蟿蟺-蟺0蟺0 Dalitz plot distributions. We have searched for additional contributions from 蟿-鈫捨蟿蟺鈥 -(1300). We place 90% confidence level upper limits on the branching fraction for this channel of between 1.0脳10-4 and 1.9脳10-4, depending on the 蟺鈥 decay mode considered. The 蟺-蟺0蟺0 mass spectrum is parametrized by a Breit-Wigner form with a mass-dependent width which is specified according to the results of the Dalitz plot fits plus an unknown coupling to an a1鈫扠*K amplitude. From a 蠂2 fit using this parametrization, we extract the pole mass and width of the a1, as well as the magnitude of the K*K coupling. We have also investigated the impact of a possible contribution from the a1鈥(1700) meson on this spectrum. Finally, exploiting the parity-violating angular asymmetry in a1鈫3蟺 decay, we determine the signed value of the 蟿 neutrino helicity to be h谓蟿=-1.02卤0.13 (stat)卤0.03 (syst+model), confirming the left-handedness of the 蟿 neutrino. 漏1999 The American Physical Society.

Abstract:

We have studied charmless hadronic decays of B mesons into two-body final states with kaons and pions and observe three new processes with the following branching fractions: B(B 鈫 蟺+蟺鈭) = (4.3+1.6鈭1.4卤0.5)脳10鈭6, B(B鈫扠0蟺0)=(14.6+5.9+2.4鈭5.1鈭3.3) 脳 10鈭6, and B(B 鈫 K卤蟺0) = (11.6+3.0+1.4鈭2.7鈭1.3) 脳 10鈭6. We also update our previous measurements for the decays B 鈫 K卤蟺鈭 and B卤 鈫 K0蟺卤. 漏 2000 American Physical Society.

Abstract:

We have searched for rare and forbidden decays of the 畏鈥 meson in hadronic events at the CLEO II detector. The search is conducted on 4.80 fb鈭1 of e+e鈭 collisions at 10.6 GeV center-of-mass energy at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring. We find no signals and set 90% confidence level upper limits of their branching fractions: B(畏鈥测啋e+e鈭畏)<2.4脳10鈭3, B(畏鈥测啋e+e鈭蟺0)<1.4脳10鈭3, B(畏鈥测啋e+e鈭纬)<0.9脳10鈭3, and B(畏鈥测啋e渭)<4.7脳10鈭4. We also fit the matrix element of the 畏鈥测啋隙+蟺鈭畏 Dalitz plot with the parametrization |M|2=础触1+伪测触2, where y is a linear function of the kinetic energy of the 畏and find Re (伪)=鈭0.021卤0.025. 漏 2000 The American Physical Society.
